FP 1 and 2: Took session one pretty easy learning the track, the track was
different from most in Spain been tight and twisty almost like a British track. We changed the gearing for session 2 and the bike felt good. I was happy with the the bike and ready for Qualifying tomorrow. Qualifying 1 and 2: In Quali 1 I was struggling to find grip but I managed to set a time of 1:34.9 which wasn’t great. I was 23rd on the grid at this point. Quali 2 I did 2 laps then lost the front into the fast left hander and that was it I was 23rd on the grid for tomorrow, I was pretty annoyed with myself because I know I could have qualified a lot better. Race: I got a good start although I done a pretty big wheelie. I got up to 12th overall by lap 3 and was moving up the field having some good battles and changing positions a lot with other riders its was a hard battle but by lap 9 my front tyre had no grip and came into a tight right corner before the back straight and lost the front. I was not happy because I was 10th overall my best position yet and the front tyre let me down. Through out the race I must have saved the front end about 3 times I knew it was a matter of time before the front went. Luckily I was fine and the bike wasn’t to bad just a handlebar and fairings. Overall: Not the best weekend but I proved I can run in the top 10. Just need some luck and a race to come together. Rider: Sam Coventry - Europe’s youngest superbike racer.
Bike: Honda CBR1000rr Fireblade Race Report from Jerez, Motorland Aragon and Catalunya Jerez CEV round 1 Stock Extreme Class We finally got to Jerez after 21hours of driving and no sleep! Once we got to the track we started setting up the Gazebo for hospitality and that took us 3hours and was a nightmare. Once that was sorted we started on setting up the garage that didn’t take us too long. Mark went off to check on the gazebo, when he came back he didn’t look happy at all it turned out one of the Racing trucks had knock it all down and crushed it! Not a good start to the weekend. FP1 and 2: Mark said to me just take the first session easy and learn the track so that’s what I did. In session 2 it was time to go quicker! So we changed the gearing and off I went. After session 2 I told Mark and John that the traction control wasn’t working so they checked on the laptop and none off the electronics were working at all! Not good news. Qualifying 1 and 2: First qualifying I was .4 off qualifying but I knew I could go quicker as I was still learning the track. Second qualifying went perfect got my time down to a 1:50.7 and was 27th on the grid. Race: This was my first ever race on the Honda Fireblade. I got a good start was about 15th out of the first corner. I started to push to stay where I was but with about 5laps to go I was 17th but then came the arm pump and slowly slid down to 21st overall and that’s were I finished. 21st overall and 13th privateer. I was disappointed about getting arm pump but happy that I scored 3points in my first race especially having no electronics either. Overall: It was a fairly good weekend coming away with points and some prize money in our first CEV meeting. Plus these boys aren’t slow! Motorland Aragon round 2 Stock Extreme We set off for Aragon at half 10 Wednesday morning and got to the track at about 3pm Thursday. Half way through the journey down we all heard a loud bang and discovered we had no 5th gear in the van! So we had to drive about 6hrs in 4th gear and the engine noise was horrid! But we got there in the end. FP1 and 2: This time all the electronics were working and I took the first session easy just to learn the track as I hadn’t been to Aragon before but the track was awesome! Loads of ups and downs and a wicked corkscrew out the back, I was loving it. Session two I upped my game and was going well apart from I was struggling with the first corner. After both sessions I went off and watched the moto2 guys into and out off the first corner and I now knew what I had to do which was hit the apex later and don’t let the bike run wide. Qualifying1 and 2: Both qualifying sessions went well and my times were ok and I qualified 28th out of 34. I qualified on a 2:02.6. Not much to say about qualifying as everything went good. Race: I got an awesome start and was 6th privateer on the first lap! But coming into the 11th corner on the second lap someone had crashed in front and someone rammed it up the inside of me and I had no where to go! So I had to cut the corner then wait till every rider had come through so I rejoined in last place. On the 3rd lap into the first corner I got it all messed up and ran wide and lost some more time but after that I rode flat out and managed to pull back 24th overall and 16th privateer. I was gutted about what happened on the second lap because I knew I could have ran with the top 6 privateers as my lap times showed, but hey that’s racing! I’m hungry for a good finish at Cataluña as I know I can be up there well in the points. Overall: it was another good weekend just a shame about the race but now I know I can run up there in the points I’m looking forward to Cataluña. Bring it on!! Next round is Montemelo Cataluña 17th to the 19th of June. We got into the circuit about 9am and we started to unload and get things sorted. Mark had to pick mum and dad up from the airport so it was just me and granddad left to get the gazebo up and sort out the hospitality. FP1 and 2: As normal took the first session pretty easy and got to know the new Michelin tyres and the circuit, which was just the most awesome track ever! My favourite so far. Got my times down to a 1.55 in the first session which wasn’t great but I had another session. Session two was time to gas it and got my time down to 1:53 which was better. We also changed the gearing for session 2 and took some rebound off the front end. Qualifying 1 and 2: Quali 1 went well I was in 20th on a 1:51.6 which was good. Although I crashed in Quali 1 which wasn’t good. Quali 2 didn’t go quite to plan I had brake fluid come out everywhere and I went in the gravel but didn’t crash I never got a faster time so I was 23st on the grid out of 34 for the race which is my best qualifying yet. Race: I got a good start and was 16th and 8th privateer for the first half of the race and was have a really good battle with another 4 riders, a few riders ran on and crashed because we were all so close on each other and fighting hard. After about 8 laps due to the heat of the track the tyre started to delaminate and over heat and I lost a lot of grip and it cost me 4 places which was a bummer but at least I finished and got some points. Overall: Its was a good weekend just need a race to come together because I know I can run in the top 10 of the privateers and grab some descent points.
